Go Where the Lord Leads
With a deep commitment to service and a visionary approach, Kaja Williams, the Co-Chair of the Youth Missions Ontario team, walks us through her time on this team and how we can all be empowered to serve for 2025.
Tell us a little bit about the Missions ministry and what it means to serve God?
The goal of the Youth Missions Ontario team is to provide opportunities for youth and young adults to serve their local communities as well as communities abroad. We hope to be the hands and feet of Jesus, helping to meet the needs of those around us. Serving God entails a variety of different aspects. In the context of mission work, serving God means to die to self, go where the Lord leads, and do all we can to help those in need.
What has your team been up to in this past year, and what’s on the horizon for you?
This past year, the Youth Missions Ontario team participated in two mission trips. We first partnered with the Master Guides to host a VBS program in Lac Seul (a First Nation community in Northern Ontario). We also aided in bringing live Christian music and fun activities to a fall fair in Kapuskasing during the Thanksgiving weekend. We also had a great time at our booth at the Ontario Camp meeting, where we were able to spread the word about missions and interact with a lot of youth and young adults.
Next year we hope to return to Lac Seul and Kapuskasing as well as complete church-to-church projects and even travel internationally for some mission trips.
As we go into 2025, what is your advice for being someone God can use in His mission work?
My advice for being someone God can use in His mission work is to simply be available. God doesn’t necessarily call the qualified, but qualifies the called. Therefore, simply being available for God to use you and having a willing heart is a great place to start.
We thank Kaja for spending time with us, and as we go into the New Year, we encourage everyone to have an open mind and a willing heart towards God’s missions for each one of us.
